These terms govern your participation in The Sacred Death Collective's programs and your use of our website. Please read them before you enroll. By purchasing a place in either program or using our website, you agree to what's below.
1. Owner Information
The Sacred Death Collective (SDC) is a sister brand to Taozen Family www.taozenfamily.com
Contact: hello@sacreddeathcollective.com.
2. What We Offer
SDC is a modern mystery school for death-curious humans and aspiring death workers. Our programs bring together indigenous wisdom traditions, Western cultural critique, Eastern healing systems, and music to transform how people meet death - their own and others'.
We currently offer two programs:
Part I — Death Preparation & Integration: a 3-month online course delivered in cohorts, with weekly live classes, all recorded and made available to enrolled participants.
Part II — Serving Others at the Threshold: an advanced death doula certification training, building on Part I, culminating in an optional in-person initiation in the Amazon with indigenous wisdom keepers. The initiation is not included in the Part II course price — see Section 8 for full details.
Current pricing, cohort dates, and program details are published at the point of purchase. We may update these for future cohorts without affecting participants already enrolled.
3. Eligibility and Enrollment
Participants must be 18 or older. Enrollment is confirmed on receipt of payment. Prices are listed in EUR and may be subject to local taxes depending on your country of residence. Pre-sale, early bird, and standard pricing tiers apply based on your purchase date, as published at checkout.
For certain programs or activities, SDC may require participants to complete a health questionnaire or screening conversation before their place is confirmed. Where SDC has serious concerns about a participant's suitability for a specific activity, it reserves the right to decline or limit participation in that activity.
4. Access to Course Materials
Course materials, recordings, and resources are for your personal, non-commercial use only. They may not be copied, recorded, redistributed, or resold. Recorded classes remain available to enrolled participants for 12 months from your cohort's start date.
5. Live Classes and Community Spaces
Weekly live classes are conducted via the video platform confirmed in your welcome email. Much of this work is personal, so we ask everyone to engage with honesty and to hold what others share in confidence. We reserve the right to remove anyone whose conduct is disruptive, disrespectful, or unsafe for the group, without refund.
Any problems during live classes or community spaces should be reported to us promptly at hello@sacreddeathcollective.com so we can address them.
6. The Nature of This Work
This work explores mortality, grief, and the practices that surround them. It is not a substitute for medical care, mental health treatment, or grief counselling, and SDC does not diagnose, treat, or assess any medical condition or illness. If you experience any health concern, seek advice from a qualified medical professional.
If you are in crisis or experiencing thoughts of harming yourself, please contact a licensed professional or emergency services in your area. SDC and its facilitators are not equipped to provide emergency support.
7. Health and Safety
SDC reserves the right to limit any participant's engagement in an activity if there is reason to believe their health or safety — or that of others — could be at risk. This includes situations where a discrepancy exists between health information provided and a participant's actual condition, or where instructions from facilitators are not followed.
8. Part II: Threshold Keeper Certification
Admission into Part II may require an application or screening conversation. Certification is awarded on completion of all required components of the online program.
The in-person initiation in the Amazon is optional and is not included in the Part II course price. It costs approximately €2,000–€3,000 per participant, depending on group size and final itinerary, for a 7–10 day journey, and requires a minimum of 10 confirmed participants to proceed. Travel, accommodation, and ceremony costs are paid separately from your Part II enrollment, and require their own informed consent, health screening, and waiver ahead of booking.
If a scheduled departure does not reach the minimum of 10 participants, SDC will offer anyone who has paid toward that departure a full refund of their initiation payments or the option to transfer to the next scheduled departure.
9. Travel and Insurance
Travel to any in-person SDC event — including the Amazon initiation — is the responsibility of the participant and at the participant's own expense. SDC is not liable for any delays or cancellations by travel providers, nor for any travel documentation issues.
SDC strongly recommends that all participants travelling to in-person events obtain appropriate travel insurance covering activity-related incidents, flight cancellations, illness, and other relevant risks.
10. Personal Belongings
SDC is not liable for any loss of or damage to participants' personal belongings during any event, unless caused directly by SDC personnel. Participants are advised to take reasonable precautions with valuables. If you have items requiring special attention, contact us in advance.
11. Schedule Adjustments
SDC may need to adjust cohort dates, event activities, facilitators, or curriculum content due to unforeseen circumstances. Where this happens, we will notify enrolled participants as promptly as possible and make adjustments with minimal disruption.
12. Cancellations and Refunds
Covered in full in our separate Refund Policy, which forms part of these terms.
13. Intellectual Property
All course content — curriculum, recordings, written materials, soundscapes, and the Sacred Death Collective name and related marks — is owned by SDC and may not be used without written permission. Participation in our programs or use of our website does not constitute the licensing or assignment of any intellectual property rights.
Participants acknowledge that all intellectual and creative rights derived from SDC's program activities remain owned by SDC, subject to applicable data protection law.
14. Limitation of Liability
Participation in SDC programs is voluntary. To the fullest extent permitted by law, SDC, its founders, and facilitators are not liable for indirect, incidental, or emotional harm arising from participation, beyond what is required by applicable consumer protection law.
